Back to School Lunches

Time is relative, give a child six weeks off from school over the summer and it will feel like just a few minutes, while to the parents of those children, the same amount of time may well crawl by with all the urgency of a lethargic sloth.

When the summer holidays come to an end, and it’s time for back-to-school shopping, we've got a few ideas to make packed lunches exciting every day.

What Are Good Lunches for School?

When most people think of packed lunches, the first thing that comes to mind is crustless triangles of white sliced bread. While sandwiches have been a staple lunchbox filler since the days of The Dandy and Beano, we now have a lot more interesting and healthy midday snacks to send your kids off with in the morning.

What Do You Put in a packed lunch for school?

While packed lunches need to be healthy and nutritious, you also need to make sure you’re sending them off with something that they are actually going to eat.

Different Breads:
If you are going for sandwiches remember there’s more to life than just whiteslice, you can easily spice up your sandwiches by getting some buns, baps, baguettes, bagels, croissants, crackers, pitta breads, rolls, sourdough or tortilla wraps.

Making Packed Lunches Fun

When it comes to preparing kids lunches, it’s as much about presentation as it is content. Sandwiches cut into interesting shapes, will have your kids wolfing them down and be well onto their fruit before they even realise that you sent them off with egg and cress this morning.

Give Them a Menu
Whether it’s Paw Patrol, Ninja Turtles, or Star Wars (apologies for showing our age), half the battle of getting them to eat their lunch is done while choosing the lunchbox they're going to use every day. A cheese man, with cucumber legs and baby-tomato head is going to amuse your kids and have them decapitate your creations. Cut them into shapes or you can even get out the pastry cutters and send them off with an army of cheese-filled heroes to face the day. You can never tell your kids how much you love them or how special they are too many times. Peppers, cheese, salad, who wouldn’t want to tuck into a rainbow-coloured delight at lunchtime? Let them pick out what they want the next day. Set up rules, like something from each section, sandwiches, fruit, treats etc Then just make sure your kitchen is well stocked.
