RSPCA Assured at Wetherspoon

JD Wetherspoon is the first pub company to commit to using only RSPCA Assured shell eggs - around 44 million eggs per year!

The RSPCA Assured logo will appear on pub menus from March 2017.

Dishes that will include RSPCA Assured eggs will include:

  • traditional breakfast
  • vegetarian breakfast
  • Wiltshire cured ham, eggs and chips
  • steak and eggs

The RSPCA welfare standards for hens - which must be met for eggs to be labelled RSPCA Assured - cover all aspects of the hens’ lives, including health, diet, environment and care.

Hens are either kept in barns with plenty of space, perches and nest boxes or in free-range systems where hens also have access to an outside range.

Head of catering at JD Wetherspoon Jameson Robinson said: “Gaining RSPCA Assured certification for our shell eggs is something of which we are very proud.

“We place a lot of emphasis on ensuring that our egg suppliers look after their laying hens to the highest of standards. With 44 million shell eggs used in our pubs each year, it’s vital our customers know how important the welfare of laying hens is to us.”
