The RSPCA was thrilled to welcome the result of ‘historic’ Commons vote for Agriculture Bill. Two years after it was first put forward, MPs voted on the Agriculture Bill and secured several important improvements to farm animal welfare in England. But we’re still concerned that key protections for animal welfare were left out.
The Agriculture Bill was put before Members of Parliament for the final time as it reached the Report Stage and Third Reading. The RSPCA campaigned extensively over the past two years for a number of important animal welfare measures in the Bill, and around 20,000 of our supporters lobbied their MPs on the issue. Last week, 605 MPs took the ‘historical’ vote on the amendments, as the first-ever law to be voted on by Westminster electronically - due to the current lockdown as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
