Not all supermarket eggs are cage-free

Approximately seven million hens still spend most of their lives each year in cramped cages, unable to move around freely, stay active, or perform natural behaviours, like foraging and dustbathing.

This summer, you can make a difference when you choose to buy RSPCA Assured eggs.

We never allow cages, ever. Whenever you see the RSPCA Assured label on a box of eggs, you know those eggs have come from an RSPCA Assured-certified farm.

What does that mean?

Our team of farm assessors work all year round to ensure the RSPCA’s strict higher welfare standards are being met at every stage of the hens’ lives. We believe in a world where all farmed animals are treated with the respect they deserve and are free to live the best life possible.

What RSPCA Assured does

We are the only farm assurance scheme solely dedicated to improving the welfare of farmed animals. All farms on the RSPCA Assured scheme follow the RSPCA’s higher welfare standards.

What egg codes mean

You may have noticed that eggs have a red stamp printed on the shell. They indicate how the eggs are produced, for example, whether they are cage-free or not.
