Higher welfare is a choice

Farming to RSPCA welfare standards is voluntary. Our members choose to meet standards that often go beyond legal requirements, helping give millions of farmed animals a better life.

This means providing more space, enrichment that encourages natural behaviours, comfortable places to rest, or using slower-growing breeds of chicken.

It also means regular independent assessments to make sure those standards are being met.

Looking after animals isn't nine-to-five

Caring for farmed animals means early mornings, late nights and being ready to respond whenever animals need attention.

Whether it's checking livestock during hot weather, making sure animals always have access to fresh food and water, or monitoring their health and behaviour, animal welfare shapes every day on the farm.
