RSPCA Assured celebrates higher welfare farmers this #Farm24 with 24 reasons to choose better welfare

Founded by Farmers Guardian, #Farm24 is a 24-hour celebration of UK farming, giving farmers the chance to share the realities of life on their farms and help people better understand where their food comes from.

To mark the campaign, RSPCA Assured has released a new video celebrating the farmers behind its label and highlighting 24 reasons to choose higher welfare.

The video recognises the dedication of its members and the everyday actions they take to give farmed animals better lives.

Recognising the farmers who put animal welfare first

Toby Baker, executive director of RSPCA Assured, says: "Farm24 shines a light on the dedication of farmers across the country.

"We're proud to celebrate our members, who choose to put animal welfare first every single day of the year.

“Whether it's an early morning, a late night or working through all weathers, much of their hard work goes unseen, but it makes a real difference to the lives of millions of farmed animals.

"Our new video shares just 24 of the reasons we’re proud to work with these farmers. They choose to meet higher welfare standards because they believe animals deserve better lives, and we hope it encourages more shoppers to recognise that commitment and support them.”

Twenty-four reasons to choose higher welfare

The campaign showcases 24 ways RSPCA Assured members help improve the lives of farmed animals, including:

• Choosing to meet around 700 higher welfare standards set by the RSPCA, even though they're not required to by law
• Giving animals space, enrichment and comfortable environments where they can express natural behaviours
• Providing detailed veterinary health and welfare plans and using antibiotics responsibly to help keep animals healthy
• Giving cattle and sheep access to grazing, ensuring poultry have natural light, and never using cages or farrowing crates.
• Investing their own time, expertise and resources to provide higher welfare, even when it's more challenging or costly.

Why choosing higher welfare makes a difference

Toby adds: “These everyday actions help farmed animals live better lives and give shoppers who choose to eat meat, fish, eggs or dairy a better choice on shelves.
