Mothers Day 2022

What date is mothers day 2022?

In 2022, Mothers Day falls Sunday, 27 March. Much like Easter, the exact date of Mothers Day changes each year.

Why are UK and US Mothers Day different?

In the UK, Mothering Sunday always falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter. This is different from Mothers Day in the US, which always falls on the second Sunday in May.

What is the difference between Mothering Sunday and Mothers Day?

Mothering Sunday has a more traditionally religious origin; during Lent, it was typical for people to travel back to their place of birth and visit the church they were baptised in. Servants were often given the day off to do this and so at the same time, they would visit their mothers.

Over time this tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, and around the 1930s and 40s, it became a day when children would give gifts and cards to their mothers.

Let mum know you care this year
