In this year’s taste tests for best supermarket food
From traditional turkeys and pigs in blankets to gin-infused smoked salmon and whisky and orange stuffing parcels, RSPCA Assured labelled supermarket foods have bagged a whopping 28 awards and recognitions in taste tests this Christmas.
These prestigious wins and recommendations come from leading food and glossy magazines; BBC Good Food, Good Housekeeping, Olive and Woman and Home, as well as the much-coveted Quality Food Awards.
Both BBC Good Food and Olive crowned Co-op’s Irresistible Beech and Oak-Smoked Salmon as the best of the best. It was also picked out as one of Good House Keeping’s top 10 salmon products.
Good Housekeeping, which awards points out of 100, included seven RSPCA Assured smoked salmon products in its top 10 list:
Two products that made it onto this list were also recognised by BBC Good Food (Tesco Finest Scottish Smoked Salmon, Highly Commended) and Woman and Home (Tesco Finest Smoked Scottish Salmon With Whisky). Woman and Home also recommends Co-op’s Irresistible Scottish Smoked Loch Trout with Whisky and Honey.
But with up to two-thirds of people planning to eat turkey this Christmas*, there is no greater award to shout about than that for best bird.
For RSPCA Assured, it means six more wins and recommendations including three from the Quality Food Awards:
And not forgetting pork, Good Housekeeping declared these RSPCA Assured stuffing parcels the best of the bunch this year; Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Pork, Chestnut and Bacon Stuffing Parcels, and Lidl’s Whisky and Orange Stuffing Parcels.
RSPCA Assured labelled pigs in blankets and gammon also came out top of the taste tests, picking up seven more wins and recognitions between them.
Commenting on this success Clive Brazier, RSPCA Assured CEO, says:
“We all know that Christmas 2020 is going to be an unusual affair. But, one thing people needn’t worry about is how to have a higher welfare celebration. Whether having to entertain for more or fewer guests than usual, there are now more award-winning supermarket products carrying the RSPCA Assured label than ever before.
“All of these ‘wins’ are testament to the continued commitment of our members to farming their animals to higher welfare standards, during what has been an incredibly tough and challenging year for all of us.
Now, that really is something to celebrate!”
