Freedom Food has appointed a new agriculture manager to help create new opportunities for the RSPCA Assured label and increase the number of animals on the scheme.

Joe Bailey (née Nash) has worked in animal welfare and farming for over 20 years and brings a wealth of experience to her new role at Freedom Food.

Having previously worked as an RSPCA inspector, a Trading Standards animal health inspector and most recently as the livestock schemes and technical manager for NSF International, Joe is committed to her career in animal welfare.

Joe will be working with Freedom Food members and the wider farming industry, as well as retailers and foodservice, to help develop new opportunities for the RSPCA

In 2012 Joe became a Nuffield Farming Scholar and visited Eastern Europe and New Zealand for her paper ‘Visits of value - welfare of man and beast’, examining the link between the welfare of stock and those responsible for them.

When Joe isn’t working she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter and their border collie, Molly.

And as if working for Freedom Food and family life doesn’t keep her busy enough, dedicated Joe also volunteers as an FCN (farming community network) caseworker.

“I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to work for Freedom Food - and its RSPCA Assured label - which is recognised as leading the way in farm animal welfare.
“I’ve already met many dedicated Freedom Food members and they should be really proud of the job they’re doing. By working together I’m confident we can achieve Freedom Food’s goal of helping improve the lives of 100 million farm animals, plus many millions of salmon and trout, in the next five years.”
